2007 Trapiche Broquel Malbec (11.99)
From: Argentina
Color: Dark inky
On the nose: Dark fruit and Chambord liqueur.
On the palate: Juicy sour cherries, dark fruit, and blackberry puree.
Wine Enthusiast gave it 91 points. I would say that is a bit high, but this is very good, amazing for the price.

Thanksgiving 2010

We traveled to our eldest son's place in D.C this year for thanksgiving. Our younger son came down from Vermont. We had a great time as always.

For Thanksgiving dinner I served the Blanc Es Rosis that reviewed in September. I Thought it went perfectly with the sage dressing and went okay with the turkey and mashed potatoes. I also served a Pinot Noir and a Beaujolais I picked up at the whole foods on 15th and P Street. I thought the Beaujolais was awful, but the Pinot was okay and went well with the hor dourves and the dinner. Sorry i did not record the name of the Pinot.

On the nose: lemon, Pears, and river rocks.
On the palate: Grapefruit and Lemons up front, more rocks (often referred to as minerality), nice weight with bright fresh acidity on the finish.
I have been asked by several people to use some kind of score for wines, for now I will leave it at, I really liked this wine.

  • 2007 Cantina Zaccagnini ($12.00)
Grapes: Montepulciano d'abruzzo
From: Abruzzo, Italy
Color: Dark, rich looking.
When I first tried it I determined it needed to be decanted for a bit. Twenty hours later it opened up nicely and the sharp tannins changed to silky smoothness.
On the nose. Dark fruit, plums, blackberries, leather, tobacco and dark chocolate.
On the pallet: Mixed dark berries, plums, black tea, some dark chocolate and liquorice.
Quite dry.
Outstanding for twice the price.
